What's In A Name?
Our cottages are named based on the local area:
Sunrise: The settlement at the mouth of Sixmile Creek was called Sunrise City, because of the way the sun appears to rise three times from the behind the steep mountains. For a few weeks during the summer of 1898, Sunrise City, with 800 people, was the largest city in Alaska www.hopeandsunrisehistoricalsociety.org).
Alpenglow: Is the name of the steep mountain above Sunrise City, based on the rosy light seen at sunset and sunrise. Referred to as the queen of Turnagain Arm, Mount Alpenglow (4816 ft / 1468 m), is the highest and most striking of the peaks that crowd the edges of the fjord (www.summitpost.org)

The Comforts of Home
The cottages at Hope’s Hideaway offer the perfect home away from home for those looking for a serene retreat surrounded by Alaska’s natural beauty. The names reflect the incredible surroundings, Sunrise and Alpenglow. Each is equipped with a fully stocked kitchen (pots, pans, dishes, etc.), living room, bedrooms with linens and towels included, and covered front porches. The cottages are three bedrooms with a full bath and each sleeps 5-6: Queen bedroom, full bedroom loft (with a partially open wall for heat), and twin trundle loft bedroom Ample parking includes space for RVs, trailers and boats.
